Captain Marius Calitz, 47, passed away suddenly on the morning of Monday 10 March 2014. He served in the SAPS from 1985, working in the Detective and Intelligence environment.

He successfully completed several courses within the SAPS over his 29 years of service.

His tearful colleagues, who were with him in his last moments, describe him as: “a meticulous and dedicated officer who was always willing to help others".

"He went out of his way without hesitation. We are really going to miss him; the office will never be the same. Marius was one of those people who always brought in humour at a time when we needed it the most,” they said.

Calitz was awarded the 10 year faithful service and the 20 year loyal service medal.

He is survived by his wife and two sons. A memorial service was held on Thursday 13 March at the NG Church. Refreshments were served afterwards at the PJ Olivier School Hall.
