Port Alfred Cricket Club, along with various other Port Alfred local cricket grounds, will play host to a fruitful week of cricket spaced over a period of eight days.
‘Pineapple Week’, as it is fondly known, is a unique opportunity for experience to challenge youthful talent.
There will be plenty of times where the ballies and the laaities might be at odds throughout the week.
Games to catch include Southwell 2nd XI versus Port Alfred High School 2nds in the ‘B1’ division, as well as the encounter between 2013 champions Manley Flats 1st XI and Rhodes Rats XI in the ‘A1’ division.
Justin Stirk, chairman of the Pineapple Cricket Tournament, announced the set-up and fixtures list for the 2014's tournament in mid-February.
Stirk, coincidentally, is fond of the gentleman’s game of cricket, playing for Southwell every now and again.
The tournament consists of two league pools, with each pool subdivided further into two more pools.
Pool A1 and A2 consist of four teams each.
Pool B1 and B2 are made up of five teams each.
A two-round knockout pool has also been included for four invitational teams.
The tournament culminates in a range of knockout format matches.
The winners of the ‘A’ pools play the runner-ups in the opposing 'A' pool on Thursday 20 March.
The winners of each of these games go on to play in the cup final on that Saturday.
The 3rd placed ‘A’ pool teams will play the opposing 4th placed ‘A’ pool teams in a plate semi-final, with the winning teams going on to play in the plate final next Saturday as well.
The winners of the ‘B’ pools will play each other in a straight League Final, while the winners of the Invitational Games will play each other in a separate final, also next Saturday.
