The Family Violence and Sexual Offence Unit had opened a case of child neglect for investigation at the Joza Police Station in Grahamstown after a toddler was found wandering the streets of Extension 8 on the morning of Sunday 23 February.
Captain Mali Govender, Grahamstown Police Spokesperson, said the three-year-old girl was brought in by a member of the community soon after 10am on Sunday.
She was dressed in a pink, blue and orange top and skirt.
“When she was brought in, she was afraid and was crying continuously,” Govender said. “She could not communicate with anyone.”
Police made enquiries in the area where the little girl was found, but no one reported losing a child. Child was taken to a local hospital for safekeeping and care.
Her mother went to look for the baby on the same day and they were reunited, said Govender.
