The Cacadu district municipality has been given a grant of R100 000 as a result of having an unqualified audit outcome for the seventh year in a row.

The award was handed out at the Vuna Awards ceremony at the Boardwalk Convention Centre in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday 19 February. There were 20 prizes in total up for grabs.
An unqualified audit is given when the auditor believes that the finances of the district were done in a fair and accurate manner.
The auditor thus has no reason to send the audit to be checked.
The Executive Mayor of Cacadu, Khunjuzwa Eunice Kekana, was voted the Best Municipal Mayor in the province for the second year in a row. She received a prize of R45 000.
“It is an extreme honour for the Cacadu District Municipality to berecognized for its efforts in striving for better administration and governance,” said Cacadu’s Municipal Manager, Ted Pillay.
“In addition, we are extremely proud of our Executive Mayor for once again receiving this sought-after accolade.”
The best-performing district was Senqu, which won five of the prizes.
This amounted to R325 000 and was given for excellent performance in service delivery, financial management, good governance, public participation and maintenance of an unqualified audit for five years.
This is despite the municipality having been accused of corruption and a lack of service delivery by the Sterkspruit Civic Association.
The award ceremony and the awards were budgeted at a cost of close to R1.2m. Only 15 of the province’s 45 municipalities competed for the awards.
