Would-be voters have three days left to register. The voters' roll for this year's national election will close on Tuesday 25 February.

This follows President Jacob Zuma's signing a proclamation setting 7 May 2014 as the date for the National Assembly elections in the country.

President Zuma signed the document today 21 February 2014. The Presidency also announced that in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holiday Act, 1994, the President has also declared 7 May 2014 as a public holiday.

The Premiers of the provinces are expected to issue proclamations calling and setting 7 May 2014 as the date for the Provincial Legislature elections in their respective provinces.

The election date proclamation will be published in the Government Gazette on 25 February 2014. According to Section 24(1) of the Electoral Act, 1998, the voters' roll will close on the day it is gazetted.
