"[It] is ready to deliver a service to the community," she said.
Station Commander and Visible Policing head Colonel Malibongwe Ntsabo briefed police officers who reported for duty for the first shift at 5.45pm.
Govender said the project reached the final stages of completion last week. The station, she said, would serve Joza, Zolani, Phaphamani, Tantyi, Phola Park and a section of the farming community.
"The members on parade were briefed on areas that they should focus on, especially the schools which have recently become a target to vandals and metal thieves," Govender said.
While police officers have moved into the building, the official opening date has not been revealed. Govender said this will be communicated as soon as a date becomes known.
The community is urged to use this facility to report crime and criminal activities. All services that the SAPS provide will be available at the station, which will be open 24 hours.
The opening of the station has been interrupted by a string of delays in connection with the electricity supply since last April.
Last month provincial police confirmed that there were still electricity problems.
Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni said there was still an outstanding problem with an electricity supply cable that needed to be attended to, to ensure safe and proper connectivity.
"The contractor is on site attending to the problem.
"Other than that, the station will open very soon," he said.
