US water polo legend Dante Dettamanti will be the keynote speaker at the second annual national Water Polo Coaches' Conference the be hosted by Kingswood College next month.

The school hosted the inaugural event last year. Other speakers include John Mitchell (All Blacks player, captain and coach), Tim Goodenough (renowned author and sports psychologist), Brad Rowe (South African Water Polo National Director of Coaching), Ian Melliar (FINA International referee).

Pieter Serfontein, head of sport at Kingswood and the conference organiser, said the networking and development event was a chance for coaches from all over South Africa to learn from experts in the game, as well as in the field of sports science.

The conference programme, from 6 to 9 January 2014, will include a balance of indoor lecture-type sessions, water polo and general sporting-related content and time for coaches to network.

Serfontein says the programme will be comprehensive and rigorous, giving participants full value for their money. Serfontein says the response has been positive and he is happy to be welcoming coaches from as far afield as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and even Zimbabwe.

“We are confident that this will be hugely beneficial to all those attending and we have no doubt that it will certainly contribute to the long-term success of water polo in South Africa,” Serfontein said.
