A 17-year-old girl continues to live with the trauma of being gang-raped and attacked while her alleged attackers fight to get out of prison.

The three Extension 9 men were recently cleared of rape charges after DNA results excluded them as suspects.

They now hope to be released on bail in time for Christmas.

Thanduxolo "Ntiyoyo" Peter, Masixole "Koya" Manyathi and Vuyo "Mabhuti" Royi were arrested in March, shortly after the girl was gang raped, stabbed, wrapped in a carpet and dumped in a yard.

In court on Tuesday 3 December State Prosecutor Lyle Prince, standing in for another prosecutor, told the court he couldn't go on with the trial as he didn't have transcripts of the case, which was already at an advanced stage.

Prince applied for a postponement to familiarise himself with the case.

The men's legal aid attorney Henry Charles opposed the application, but Magistrate Thembela Mata granted the State the remand.

The case was postponed to 16 January, although the men could still be released from custody before then should their attempt to apply for bail on new facts be successful.
