The Commission met on Friday 22 November to review the outcome of the recent registration drive.
The IEC registered just over one million new voters but young people, especially aged 18 to 19, were the smallest group to register.
In a press release on Monday the Commission also confirmed that the next and last voter registration weekend is on 8 and 9 February 2014.
It is anticipated that the President will proclaim the election date shortly after the registration weekend, closing the voters’ roll in line with legislation.
You have until 5pm on the day the President proclaims the election date to register.
This will be the final opportunity for new voters to register and for registered voters to change their voting station ahead of the 2014 national and provincial elections.
Proclamation can happen any time after 9 February 2014.
Eligible voters who have not yet applied for ID documents can do so at their nearest home affairs office. They are encouraged to apply before the holiday season.

There are currently 24 112 414 registered voters (76.7%) and the Commission hopes to reach 80% registration of eligible voters ahead of the election.
