More than 500 school water polo players took part in the event held at the Kingswood College, St Andrew's College and DSG swimming pools.
Every age group had girls' and boys' A- and B-side matches.
Each of the 40 teams involved in Saturday's event played up to three games against varying opposition.
Head of sport at Kingswood, Pieter Serfontein said, “Grahamstown was chosen as the destination for this event because of its ideal geographic location, approximately halfway between East London (Border) and Port Elizabeth (East Province).”
This is the second water polo interprovincial between Border and EP. Serfontein said the event served as preparation for the upcoming South African Schools Inter-Provincial Tournament. This event takes place in East London from 6 to 10 December.
“It is a privilege for our respective schools and for Grahamstown itself to host an event of this magnitude,” said Serfontein.
Serfontein said water polo continues to grow in popularity as a mainstream sport in South Africa.
“It is an honour for us to play a role in the future development thereof,” he said.
In terms of the day's results, Serfontein said Border seemed to have the “very slight upper hand overall”. He said in most cases matches were keenly contested.
