Jene Banfield and Malibongwe Mbelu were named Athletes of the Year at the Run/Walk For Life Grahamstown branch 2013 awards function.

Jene Banfield and Malibongwe Mbelu were named Athletes of the Year at the Run/Walk For Life Grahamstown branch 2013 awards function.

The club held its awards prize-giving on Saturday 23 November at the PJ Olivier Fanie Venter Clubhouse.

Banfield won gold in her age group in the Eastern Province 15km, 10km, 21km and cross-country races.

Banfield also finished first overall among the women competing in the EP 21km champs, for which she received the local club's Female Performance of the Year Award.

Mbelu recorded the fastest marathon and half-marathon times for Run/Walk For Life, as well as setting a number of personal best times in various distances throughout the year.

John van Onselen, who represented Triathlon South Africa at the World Triathlon Championships in London, received the Male Performance of the Year award.
