Makana employees concerned that cash flow problems in the municipality would mean that their salaries are paid late again can relax.

Municipal spokesperson Mncedisi Boma confirmed this morning that all staff salaries for this month were paid on Friday 22 November.

"We have made a commitment to the workers that this month they will be paid their salaries on time, even their bonuses," Boma said.

At the end of last month angry municipal workers gathered in front of the city hall after their salaries had not been paid on time.

Rumours rapidly spread that the municipality had no money in the bank.

Makana Executive Mayor Zamuxolo Peter confirmed some of the rumours and said there were serious cash-flow problems in the municipality.
