Glynis Suttie is excited to welcome the new Pre-School teachers, whom she refers to as “two dynamic ladies”. Christine Whetton and Kerry Barrow are part of the foundation phase.
With the introduction of grades 00 and R, Graeme College now is one family on one campus, catering for pupils from around four years old to around 18.
The Grade 00 and Grade R classes, although on the school campus, enjoy a separate facility.
No senior pupils have access to the area.
The new facility is fully equipped with all modern equipment and apparatus, including interactive whiteboards and overhead projectors.
Christine Whetton is the new Grade R teacher at Graeme College. Christine has been involved with the set-up of the pre school for the past few months, helping select equipment for her pupils and the classroom.
Christine says it has been a privilege to be involved with the set-up of the pre-school, with her opinion being valued by the Foundation Phase staff.
“It's not often you get to be part of the set-up of a school.”
Christine and her family have been in Grahamstown for the past two years, with Christine being a stay-at-home mom.
Before then, Christine worked at a pre-primary school in Johannesburg.
Kerry Barrow is the Grade 00 teacher at Graeme College pre-school. Born in Grahamstown, Kerry attended Victoria Girls' High School before spending 10 years overseas and in Cape Town in the tourism industry.
She returned to Grahamstown to teach at pre-school level.
Kerry has worked at the Wendy House Play centre and is finishing off her Bachelor of Education at Rhodes University. Her final exam is on Sunday.
Speaking about her new post as the Grade 00 teacher, Kerry said: “I am so excited, it's fantastic”
She said it was great to be part of the pre-school from the beginning.
