Two children will receive important vaccinations thanks to the Rhodes University DanceSport Club's Dance for a Cure event held recently.

Candice Ryan of Rhodes DanceSport Club said while their event raised just over R3 000 for Dance for a Cure South Africa, the club would put in the remainder to make up R3 600.

This, she said, is enough to support two children for the vaccinations at the rate of R1 800 each.

Dance for a Cure helps young, orphaned girls to be vaccinated against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which leads to cervical cancer.

Ryan said in total about 60 people supported the events, which included fitness and dancing and an auction, as well as a braai held at the end of the day's activities.

Ryan said the two-hour fitness and dancing sessions had challenged the participants.

A number of businesses sponsored spot prizes for different activities, while a number of larger sponsored prizes were auctioned off to raise more money for the cause.
