Makana United Business Chamber (MUBC) is calling an urgent meeting to discuss legal action due to the lack of co-operation from local government.

The Chamber, incorporating Grahamstown Business Forum and Makana United Business Development Forum, intends to take legal action against Makana Municipality for ignoring its requests to meet and tackle problems affecting businesses and residents in the area.

"The ultimatum was that if the Municipality did not address our concerns with us, we would be forced to take legal action," read a statement by the Chamber. "As we have received no response  to our request for a meeting to discuss a way forward we now wish to take legal action in order to force open a channel of communication."

"We are unable to move in any direction without a mandate from our members which is impossible to acquire if business people are not prepared to come to a meeting," read the statement.

"Without being a unified force, which means coming under one roof, we will not be able to tackle the municipality in any way or form. It is imperative that we show a united front with our local government in order to be taken seriously."Local stakeholders are asked to attend the MUBC meeting on Thursday 17 October to discuss a way forward.

The meeting at city hall starts at 5.30pm for 6pm.
