It's official: popular township tavern Makhaya's is hosting its opening on Saturday 12 October, with nationally renowned DJ Tira expected in the line-up for the highly anticipated event.

Well-known business man Makhaya Dyibishe spoke to Grocott's Mail about the move from Fingo Village to Joza.

For years Dyibishe has been involved in running the popular Makhaya's lounge and tavern in E Street, where he had been leasing space from the owners of the building. The lease was terminated earlier this year and the owners said they needed to use their building, according to Dyibishe.

It did not take long for Dyibishe to acquire a new venue. Since leaving Fingo Dyibishe has teamed up with fellow business people Nkuli Shenxane, Babsie Mbeleni and Ivy Madyo to organise the smashing opening of his new tavern in Joza, formerly known as Club 046.

Madyo, who is organising the event through Tell Ur Friends Productions, told Grocott's Mail DJ Tira, known for hits including 4 000, Original and recently Summertime, will be performing during the grand opening.

Recently Dyibishe hosted a function to bid farewell to friend and well-known DJ, Lungisa "Mayuyu" Tala, who died in an accident on 6 September.

Some people might have mistaken the event as the opening of the new tavern, Dyibishe said, but he described it as an "after tears" function for the late DJ.

"He was my boy and we used to work together and he also used play at my place," he said.

Speaking about the new environment in Joza, Dyibishe said local party people can expect the same entertainment value that he's known for at his new spot in Joza.

"Nothing has changed. We are doing the same thing that people are used to. We plan to bring famous DJs at least once every month," he said.

The place has been transformed into a better-looking venue, according to Dyibishe, and includes a braai area, a lounge, a shop and an open drinking area.

The tavern will be officially opened on 12 October, with DJ Tira as the main act, accompanied by local DJs Leja, Udz, Laz, Monks, Nho and Nava.

Admission will be R20.
