The city's rich and eclectic art scene has grown with the recent opening of a phallo-centric art gallery right outside Grahamstown.

Situated at Burg Lengeling Backpackers, home of the popular Yellow Piano Inn, Phallos will be open to the public by appointment.

According to co-owners Claudia and Volkher von Lengeling, the gallery is the first in contemporary Africa to be dedicated to phallic art.

Volkher says phallic art – representations of erect penises, typically symbolizing fertility or potency – is actually not as uncommon as you think.

Check out an interview with Volkher below and find out what's behind his eccentric collection.

You can call Volkher and Claudia on 046 637 0880 to book an appointment.
