Michaela and Hannah Chowles of Victoria Girls’ High School represented the Sunshine Coast Crusaders at the Southern African Christian Schools Sporting Association (SACSSA) Regional Athletics meet.

Michaela finished in the top 10, while Hannah was announced the Girls’ Junior Victrix Ludorum. In perfect conditions, SACSSA-affiliated teams the Alexandria Christian Academy, Elshadi, Karoo Valley Home-School, Plumb Line Christian Academy, Sunshine Coast Crusaders, The Eagles and Tehillah Christian Academy took to the tracks.

The regional championships were held at the Oval stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday 23 August. Every year athletes compete at a Zonal Meeting and Regionals. Those meeting qualifying times and standards have been selected to represent Eastern Province at the National SACSSA meeting, being held in Pretoria this month.

The Chowles sisters are on the EP reserve team list.

This year SACSSA Athletics has opened its doors to local athletes in the area, including the Sunshine Coast Home-Schoolers who excelled and set new records at the Zonal event. Many of them qualified to go to the Nationals in Pretoria.
