Local artist Sally Scott has recently bagged another international award at the World Quilt and Textile Competition, held in New Hampshire, USA.

Her black-and-white cotton fabric and string piece 'Axis Mundi Reflected' was announced third best in the Innovative category. It is currently being showcased in an ongoing series of textile festivals across American states.

Axis Mundi, otherwise known as “the tree of life”, depicts the idea of becoming whole and building harmony with oneself, says Scott. Linking the heavens and the earth, Scott says the abundance of roots in the earth signify being deeply rooted, which allows one to grow.

“The artwork is a meditative piece,” she said, and the inspiration behind it is the natural world. Two of her artworks have won first prize in this international competition in 2011 and 2005 respectively.

Scott is a landscape and textile artist, as well as a fabric designer and design teacher.
