Guest houses providing accommodation to Eastcape Midlands College students will petition the institution to regularise payment for their services.

Guest houses providing accommodation to Eastcape Midlands College students will petition the institution to regularise payment for their services.

Owners of the Stone Crescent Hotel, Frontier Country Hotel, African Pride Accommodation and Charlotte Bread and Breakfast complained at a meeting on Wednesday 21 August of delayed payments and unclear payment methods.

This follows a three-day strike by students over a halt to National Student Financial Aid Scheme bursaries for those failing certain performance criteria.

Students returned to class this week.

Matthew Mkeleni, of the South African Student Congress (Sasco) said they told the management to write a letter to the landlords telling them to take back the students they reportedly evicted after they failed to pay for accommodation.

Frontier Hotel owner Lungile Mxube said they had been accommodating students for months without any payment from the College.

The payments they received were irregular. The College's campus manager, Vukile Hewana, said he would only be available for comment at a later stage.
