Residents in some areas, including parts of Joza, and students in several Rhodes University residences have reported having water in their taps again.
However, for others, after a brief reprieve, the water is out yet again.
Dean of students at Rhodes Vivian de Klerk confirmed in a statement emailed today that six residences remain without water and that standard emergency measures are still in operation.
She quoted municipal officials, who said the new water outages were because of an electricity outage after a power line collapsed.
Residents in some suburbs have reported water outages since this morning.
It is unclear when power and water are expected to return as the municipality cannot be reached for comment.
“The reasons for the outage are electrical, with a downed power line the pumps at the dams are not operating and this has caused a sudden loss of water pressure,” De Klerk said in her statement.
"The engineers are trying to secure an alternative source of power and once pumping is resumed, most people should receive pressure within about four hours."
While some Grahamstown residents, including students, have been without water for as long as 10 days, water problems have been reported in Joza township for almost three weeks.
