The DA has called for an emergency Council meeting to address the water crisis in the city.

The DA has called for an emergency Council meeting to address the water crisis in the city.

"In light of the humanitarian, economic and educational crisis caused by the regular water outages in most areas of Grahamstown, and in light of the open letter from Rhodes University addressed to Council, the Democratic Alliance caucus the Speaker of the Makana Council, Councillor RM Madinda-Isaacs to exercise her powers to call an Urgent Special Council Meeting," wrote councillor Brian Jackson.

Jackson sent a copy of the letter to Grocott's Mail. He said at the meeting there should be a comprehensive report on the current water outage and discussion of issues arising from this week's open letter from Rhodes University.

He said there should also be a review of the political oversight and the political leadership of the municipality's technical and infrastructure department. Brian Jackson is the Ward 8 councillor and leader of the Makana DA Caucus.
