Twenty-one DSG pupils left for Britain on Friday 9 August, where they will be cycling from Edinburgh to London to raise money for the Holy Cross School in Grahamstown.
Deputy principal at DSG, David Wright, said this was the sixth annual DSG Challenge. "The girls undertake a physical challenge in order to raise funds for a charity of their choice," Wright explained.
In the past the girls have completed a triathlon from London to Paris that included swimming the English Channel, the cold water swim from Robben Island to Bloubergstrand and have also hiked the Fish River Canyon in Namibia.
"This year the team is talking the nearly 1 000km journey from Edinburgh to London," said Wright.
The 21 girls will cycle in a relay format, averaging approximately 50km a day.
The Holy Cross School is a primary school started by monks from the Mariya uMama weThemba Anglican Benedictine Monastery on the Highlands Road to provide a better education for the children of farm labourers in the area.
DSG has created a special bond with the school, thanks to the links with the Anglican Church.
