June Abrahams, a widowed mother of four, has finally had her cries heard by the municipality after a decade of struggling.

On 9 July 2012 Grocott’s Mail reported that Abrahams had been on the waiting list for an RDP house for over a decade.

In that time she had tried over and over again to get help from her ward councillor and even the Mayor, but to no avail.

Now Ward 4 councillor Lena May is happy to announce that Abrahams’ plight is nearing an end. She is finally on the list of people who will receive an RDP house in the Extension 10 area under construction.

“The houses will be finished and handed over to their new owners before the end of this year,” said May. “And June is number one on the list of people who will be receiving houses.”

Abrahams was very excited when May went to her in person to confirm the good news.

“I cannot believe it,” Abrahams told Grocott’s Mail this week. “All those years of struggling and finally I am going have a home for me and my children.”
