"Frindge needs to come up with plans and budget for frindge so that young and upcoming artists can come and enjoy themselves without thinking about money because there will be a budget that is set-up for frindge," said marimbarist Nyasha Mhlanga.
The band consists of Mhlanga, Evans Maphumo on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, lead guitarist Ashley Chiweshe, Rawnii Van is the bass guitarist and Smithern Masango on the drums.
The band came to the National Arts Festival for the first time and performed at the Steve Biko building in their mid-day free last show, a number of people who had the music from downstairs came and supported the group, at the end of the show their director explained their pain and difficulty.
KIAT slept in the car for the five days that they spent in Grahamstown and their director was asking for any form of donation to be sent through so that the group could travel back to Cape Town.
"There's a lot of competition," Maphumo explained. "First-timers and upcoming artists fall victims because we sometimes have the show at the same time that big groups like Micasa are doing their show so we end-up performing for less than 5 people in our shows."
They said the overall festival was great and the feel was perfect, but the attendance in their shows was poor while they have done their part of the marketing.
