The open mic's first act was Njilo noDezz, the duo crowned the most hard-working young artists by Makana Arts Council last year.
They opened with their self-titled track and that was the beginning of the long night. After them, Black Seed performed a song that spoke of the importance of truth.
It wasn't long till the battle for R2 000 prize money started. Thirteen rappers registered their names for a fee of R50.
Blazing Blade, Skiri, Tazz, Shmael, Master Sam and Seed are among those who did battle.
Shmael lost to Tazz, the only female rapper registered, later voted the best loser, only to come back to face Tazz of in the final.
His delivery was flawless the second time around, and he battled Tazz out to become The King of the Crime Scene.
He said it was humbling to be voted back in and winning the overall battle. He said he felt like he was in a movie.
Then the moment that everyone was waiting for, the main line-up headlining Ohayv from Port Elizabeth and hosted by Mbu ManyLaughs from East London.
The rest of the line-up was OIL, Amathwasa and Simbone, all from East London, Nqontsonqa from Grahamstown, Abantu from Port Elizabeth, Lolo, Celtic, Ltee and Vernac Revolution, all from King William's Town. The show ended around 3am with a full house wanting more, but the bar had to close.
