"There's a rhino on your doorstep." Jess Fick's Festival family day at Fiddlers' Green fair was interrupted by a call informing her of the big
This was no quirky title for a play, or performance art prank – there really was a rhino at Fick's home on Tuesday
Fick lives on a property outside Grahamstown, off the N2 to Port Elizabeth.
The rhino, which was being moved from one farm to another, had escaped and several motorists on the N2 had reported seeing it.
Fick said she hadn't believed the farm manager's call, but when she and her children returned home there was a large imprint in the soil of her driveway.
Then they started looking for the animal, with the intention of rescuing it. However, they soon realised they were scaring it off.
At this point, Fick tried to get outside help from Dr William Fowlds, whom she thought would dart and transport the animal.
She later found out that an even bigger search party was looking for the rhino, but the search was stopped when it got dark and started raining.
The search continued the next morning and the rhino was found.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender confirmed that the rhino was found early on Wednesday morning. “She is okay and will be returned back to her farm,” Govender said this week.
