Michael Bennett, a Grade 12 pupil at St Andrew’s College, has been selected for the South African Junior national rowing team to compete in the Junior World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania in August.

Michael Bennett, a Grade 12 pupil at St Andrew’s College, has been selected for the South African Junior national rowing team to compete in the Junior World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania in August.

He is one of the strongest sweep rowers in the country and has received his Eastern Cape Rowing Colours for the past two seasons.

Michael had a successful 2013 club season, winning the Junior U10 Pair event with Matthew Kroon at the SA Schools Championships in March.

In addition, on land, he bettered the Rowing Clubs 2 000m and 5 000m ergo records, as well as the Eastern Cape JMU18 2 000m record.

Michael also won the Open Men’s Coxed Four Event at the Senior SA Championships, thus attaining his first senior national title to go along with his junior national title attained in March, in the pair.
