With many of last year's Standard Bank Ovation Awards winners returning to Festival this year, performers and fans wait in anticipation for Sunday's announcement of this year's top acts.

Launched in 2010 for all first-time Fringe productions, the Ovation Awards seek out productions that stand out from the rest. Nominations come from accredited journalists who cover Festival shows and a Festival awards judging panel.

Once productions have enough nominations, the panel see the production and make their decision.

Gold and Silver Ovation Award winners will be presented to the most deserving productions under the categories of Theatre, Dance, Comedy and Music. There is also a "wild card” category, for all other genres.

Gold Ovation Award winners receive a prize of R5 000, while the Silver Ovation Award winners receive R1 000 each.

The Ovations Awards daily winners are announced daily in Cue magazine. So far they are The Bram Fisher Waltz, BitterSweet, Crazy in Love, for.Given, Get Kraken, Plastic, Expectant and The Things You Left Behind.

The Gold or Silver Ovation Awards will be announced on Sunday morning.
