From the mind of Standard Bank Encore Ovation Award winning director Robert Haxton of The Runaway Bunni Collective comes Dogyard 2013, a theatrical snapshot of Arthur Barck, the owner of Doggy Do’s Dog Grooming Parlour.

The cast and collaborators of Dogyard 2013 include Cape Town-based multidisciplinary performer, SPAT award winning actor Shaun Acker (The Unexpected Man, Swoop, Get Kraken) playing the obscure Arthur Barck.

Joining Acker this year is designer and actress, winner of the Handspring Puppet Award for Best Maniplulation and previous Ubom! Eastern Cape Drama Company performer Ilana Cilliers (Wreckage, Breed).

Cilliers will play the naive Annie, as well as the deranged and sinister Mother Barck.

Stylistically in the tone of the German Expressionist movement, Haxton, Acker and Cilliers wistfully and unabashedly present layers of disturbing metaphor with as much glee as a dog which got into the trash can.

The trio fastens and unfastens the buttons of the straight jacket holding man and mutt, while tempering all sorts of pleasurable taboos.

This shamefully innocent, recklessly trustworthy, deliciously inappropriate and hilariously honest piece of South African theatre will have you in (the vet’s finest) stitches.

Dogyard 2013 will be showing at the B2 Arena at 10am on 1 July, 8.30pm on 2 July, 4pm on 4 July,  8.30pm on 5 July, 4pm on 6 July, and 4pm on 7 July.
