Nine hockey players from the Diocesan School for Girls and 11 from Kingswood College will face staunch competition from around the country while playing for various  Eastern Province (EP) hockey teams later this month and in July.

The girls have been selected to play for EP teams that will take part in various inter-provincial tournaments around SA.

To make the cut for these provincial sides the girls had to participate in the EP trials in Port Elizabeth during April and May.

A squad was then selected, which included an A and B side, as well as non-travelling reserves.

The final teams were selected after another set of trials.

DSG pupils selected for EP:
U14B – Pippa Kirsten
U16A – Allison Brown, Sandi Tabata, Lenta Cullinan
U16B – Lauren Ramsay, Sarchen Gainsford, Grace Biggs
U18A – Sarah Cuppleditch
U18B – Annabelle Allanson

The U14 inter-provincial tournament will take place from 27-30 June in George. The U16 inter-provincial tournament will be from 1-6 July in Potchefstroom. The U18 tournament takes place in Durban from 8-13 July.

In the meantime these top DSG players travel to Port Elizabeth every week to practise with their EP teams. While the practice sessions have been on Fridays, the DSG pupils won’t attend this week’s practices due to their involvement in K-Day.

A number of Kingswood College girls taking part in this weekend’s K-Day fixtures have also made it onto various Eastern Province (EP) hockey teams.

The Kingswood girls went to various trials in Port Elizabeth during April and May and were shortlisted after the final squad trials.

The following senior girls have been selected for EP hockey teams:
EP 14A – Kate Von Holdt
EP 14B – Nealy Lombard
EP 16A – Errin Shillaw, Aimee-Leigh Pote, Hannah Knott-Craig and Courtney Trow
EP 18A – Siwe Kuse, Ella Wright, Celeste Du Toit and Shannon Arnold
EP 18B – Laura Bennett

The U14 inter-provincial tournament takes place from 27-30 June in George. The U16 tournament will be from 1-6 July in Potchefstroom and the U18s will thrash it out in Durban from 8-13 July.

The players continue to travel to Port Elizabeth on a weekly basis to practise with their various EP sides.
