Scores of shocked residents rushed to the scene where the partly decomposed body of a young woman was discovered in Scott's Farm on Monday 17 June.
A man looking for scrap metal in a rubbish container discovered her body.
A woman who had gathered among the crowd at the scene started crying as fears that the body could be that of her sister's daughter, who had recently gone missing, started to seem like a strong possibility.
Lungiswa Cirha became emotional as she told relatives and neighbours who were also at the scene that she suspected that it could be her 29-year-old niece's body that was found in the container.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said the police responded to a call from a community member who reported that a body had been found.
She said the police had opened an inquest docket.
"A post-mortem will be done to establish the cause of death," Govender said.
