Grahamstown’s usually peaceable music scene will take a sharp turn on Wednesday 12 June as the 7th annual National Grahamstown Music competition makes an uproarious return.

Pitting musicians of all different disciplines against one another in three categories (Junior, Senior and Tertiary) the competition will run over the course of three days.

The competition will start with a welcome concert at the Guy Butler auditorium at the Grahamstown Settlers Monument on Wednesday 12 June, featuring an award-winning US Percussion Duo Cherilee Adams and Dylan Tabisher together with critically acclaimed pianists Catherine Foxcroft and Mareli Stolp.

The National competition will feature acts from 45 entrants of all ages, with the very best of these making their way through the two preliminary rounds to earn the privilege of blowing away the crowd on 15 June at the Saturday night final.

These acts will have roughly eight minutes to impress judges at the Beethoven Room in the Rhodes University Department of Music and Musicology.

This festival of guitar, piano, voice and all things musical is one that should not be missed.
