The three-month water outage at Checkers in High Street has ended, following a report in Grocott's Mail.

In our Tuesday edition we reported that staff had to carry buckets of water to flush the toilets and that there was no water in the delicatessen and bakery sections of the store.

Staff at the High Street shop expressed relief yesterday that the water supply had been restored.

A staff member who did not want to be identified said, "It was fixed on Tuesday. The problem was that the copper pipes at the back were stolen, so they replaced them and the water is up and running now."

On Monday Grocott's Mail reported that the third floor of the store's building had been without water for three months.

On the second floor, the bakery and deli were also without water.

On Monday the building's caretaker told Grocott's Mail that the problem had been caused by a burst pipe at Anglo African Street.

Municipal officials, however, dismissed these claims and said it was an internal problem.
