Kicking off the Rhodes University International Week, the university is calling on anyone who'd like to showcase their cultural heritage to join the fun procession.
Not only will there be live performances by groups representing various countries, there will also be a surprise dance to end the festivities.
Rhodes international student councillor Ndana Tendayi has been busy preparing for the event and is looking forward to representing her home country, Zimbabwe.
“I’m very excited – it’s going to be spectacular – especially since we have 12 other universities coming down from all over South Africa to join the celebrations,” she said.
These 41 visitors are both South African and international students attending other universities in the country who are in town for a colloquium that will take place after the parade.
Organisers say a minimum of 69 countries will represent their diverse nationalities with flags, costumes, and other eye-grabbing paraphernalia on Saturday.
Rhodes International Office Director Orla Quinlan said you definitely shouldn’t miss this “amazing inter-personal and inter-cultural experience”.
So paint your face, bring your flag and tell your friends – everyone is welcome at this family-friendly event.
