Two local bodybuilders who brought a trophy and a medal back from a provincial competition in Port Elizabeth last weekend will be launching their own Grahamstown club tomorrow (Saturday) for others wanting to pump iron competitively.
Two local bodybuilders who brought a trophy and a medal back from a provincial competition in Port Elizabeth last weekend will be launching their own Grahamstown club tomorrow (Saturday) for others wanting to pump iron competitively.
Lee Mapaling and Lesley Sauls returned from Sunday's Eastern Province Natural Bodybuilding Association (EPNBA) open competition, Mapaling with a trophy for third place in the U21 heavyweight section, and Sauls with a fourth-place medal in the seniors' light-weight category.
The two entered the competition as members of the PE-based EPNBA club, but plan to represent Grahamstown next time they compete as the Albany Natural Bodybuilding Club.
Officials and members of the EPNBA will be present at tomorrow's club launch, to be held at the old ambulance station on the corner of Fitzroy and Currie streets, starting at 10am.
Visiting officials will give talks on nutrition and what bodybuilding is all about, as well as offer advice on natural supplementation.
Anyone interested in joining the new club or who'd like to see what it's about is welcome to attend the opening tomorrow.
Sauls said the club is open to anyone keen on bodybuilding, as well as women keen on the fitness side of the sport.
Mapaling and Sauls have just completed the bulk phase of their training and are currently in the cutting phase, which sees them prepare for competitions.
Last Sunday's event was held for bodybuilders in the bulk phase, hence it was an open competition.
The two will now be concentrating on the EP trials on 17 June and hope to form a strong Grahamstown team.
