A young woman whose family turned her over to police last year has been found guilty of murder in the Grahamstown regional court this week.
Nomqondiso Msila, 19, was arrested and charged with murder on 9 December, following her alleged involvement in the murder of a woman from Extension 8.
After turning her in, Msila's family paid her R500 bail.
The first-time offender's bail application on 12 December was not opposed by the state.
At the time police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said officers had been called to investigate a murder scene at an Extension 8 house in the early hours of a Sunday morning.
They found the victim, a woman in her mid 30s, lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound to her upper body.
Govender said the identity of the suspect was initially unknown, but it was established that a group of people had been drinking there.
After follow-up investigations the family handed the woman over to the police.
On Wednesday Msila was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for 10 years.
