Grahamstown’s newest fresh herb store features a greenhouse tunnel that uses a system called aquaponics to grow plants and fish simultaneously.

Called Urban Herbs, the tunnel officially opened to the public on Saturday. Gary Burgess of Aquaponics Innovations says all their fresh produce is organically grown and includes five varieties of basil, lemon grass, artichokes, more exotic herbs like tarragon and eight varieties of chilli in the near future.

They also grow veggies like butternut, cucumber, celery and lettuces, and because the temperature is controlled in the tunnel they'll be able to supply seasonal herbs all year round.

For more information or to have a tour of the tunnel, contact Gary on 082 458 6892.
