With a record field of over 800 entrants the fourth annual Rhodes University Green Fund Run saw all manner of athletes swarm to the Makana Botanical Gardens in some funky outfits – with the odd mishap – recently.

Organiser Nikki Köhly said the 2013 Green Fund Run on Sunday 17 March “was a phenomenal success, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and participated in the event".

“We were dismayed to learn that the Formula 21 team was robbed of certain victory for the fourth year in succession due to a marshalling error. This is very frustrating for a team that enters with the sole purpose of winning the event, and we wish to offer a full apology to the Formula 21 athletes for this error”, Köhly said.

The marshal involved is a senior member of staff at Rhodes and they “simply made a mistake,” Köhly added.

Team Formula 21 has been offered free entry for next year’s event.

Köhly said money raised for the Fund will go towards reducing the university's ecological footprint and enhancing sustainability in the community.
