South Africa's top underwater hockey players will be in action in Grahamstown this weekend. It's the South African Underwater Hockey Federation's (SAUWHF) national championships.

The action takes place on Friday and Saturday. All the games take place at the DSG Indoor Swimming Pool. This year's nationals are hosted by Eastern Province underwater hockey.

This is the first time this prestigious tournament is been held in Grahamstown.

A number of Rhodes University Underwater Hockey Club members are part of the Eastern Province men and women's sides, while teacher Wayne Rathbone is the EP coach, as well as the SAUWHF chief referee.

While the tournament only starts on Friday, the South African women's trials take place on Thursday.

The SA men's trials take place on Sunday.

At these trials, SA underwater hockey will choose the top SA men and women's teams to attend the World Championships in Hungary in August.

Jennifer Coppinger and Christine Coppinger of Rhodes will be taking part in the women's trials.
