Pupils from St Mary’s Primary School on Albany Road gathered last Wednesday to protest against new teachers being appointed by the Department of Education.
According to parents, three temporary teachers at the school were not considered for permanent positions and were instead replaced by the Department of Education.
The parents said teachers from other provinces had been brought in to take their place.
Pupils told Grocott's Mail that they did not want new teachers.
The school governing body and the teachers met with a representative from the Eastern Cape Education Department on Wednesday, but resolutions taken at this meeting have not been made public.
Principal Gerard Jacobs declined to comment on either the protest or the transfers.
Chairperson of the St Mary’s school governing body, Eugene Barman, said he had not been present at the meeting and could not comment on what happened at the protest.
