A litre of diesel 0.05% sulphur and diesel 0.005% sulphur will both rise by 17.8 cents.

Illuminating paraffin wholesale will increase by 26 cents and illuminating paraffin (single maximum national retail price) is to increase by 34 cents.

The maximum retail price for LPGAS will rise by 73 cents per kilogram.

The department said that during the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

"The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 27 December 2012 to 31 January 2013 was 8.7629 compared to 8.6833 during the previous period."

"The weakening of the rand against the US dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 6.4 cents a litre; 6.69 cents a litre and 6.74 cents a litre respectively," the department said. – SAnews.gov.za
