Two early morning runners were surprised on Sunday morning to find a wild buck wandering around.

"I'd just turned into Cathcart Street and there it was in the middle of the street," said Mark Wilby, one of the joggers who encountered the buck at 8am.

"I think the buck was more surprised than we were."

Two hours later, Hillsview resident Gary Grapentin found a buck caught in his fence.

"It was quite big, and it had lodged itself between the bars of our palisade fence," he told Grocott's Mail on Wednesday. "Fortunately it…managed to dislodge itself."

The buck got stuck again, but soon freed itself and ran down the street.

Asked on Wednesday for comment, the SPCA said they would send someone to investigate as soon as possible.

"There was quite a lot of blood," said Grapentin. He says that the buck was spotted again on Sunday, but seemed to be all right.
