According to Mighty Chiefs project manager, Jeff Budaza, the side took too long to get going in the match, giving All Stars the gap to score in the first 10 minutes of the game.
This was the score at the half-time break. Mighty chiefs were first to score in the second half, through Ayanda Skeyi.
All Stars then scored two more goals to take the score 3-1 to All Stars and the game began to look out of reach for Mighty Chiefs with 10 minutes remaining.
However, the Grahamstown side had other ideas and scored two quick goals, first through Lelethu Ndibaza and the equaliser by Siya Dumiso.
Budaza said although Mighty Chiefs outplayed All Stars in the second half, he was not happy with the side's fitness level.
Budaza said the Mighty Chiefs lacked the killer instinct.
He said everyone had wanted to score and be the hero of the side, instead of working together as a team.
In the curtain raiser to the Mighty Chiefs vs All Stars game, the only Grahamstown women's soccer side, African Connection, played a friendly pre-season warm-up match against Golden Stars from Port Elizabeth.
African Connection play in the Absa soccer league, while Golden Stars are play a level higher, in the Sasol league. African Connection showed their season's intentions early on to dominate the game and win 3-0.
However, African Connection manager, Chris Totobela said his side still lacked fitness, thanks to the December break and that they still had a lot of work to do before the start of the season.
