Clicks casual workers in Grahamstown downed tools on Saturday because they haven’t been paid since December, and say they won’t return until they’ve received their wages.
While the store’s management refused to comment on the dispute, they confirmed that the workers had not been paid.
Management referred queries to the regional office in Port Elizabeth, but these were referred to head office.
Responding to the complaints Clicks spokesperson Susann Caminada said they were aware of the problem and asked staff members to come forward with their complaints.
"We are aware of the matter and as a responsible employer have strict processes in place to ensure that our employees are paid accurately and on time," said Caminada. "We appeal to affected staff to come forward with their details so we can resolve the issue and ensure payment."
None of the Grahamstown workers would give comment for fear of being victimised. When approached, the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union said it was unable to provide comment regarding a payment dispute involving their members.
