Police officers who were conducting a stop-and-search operation on the N2 between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth yesterday recovered a vehicle that was reported missing in Durbanville. 

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said members of the Grahamstown Highway patrol  were conducting a stop and search operation on the N2 at about 4.30pm when a white bakkie travelling from the direction of Port Elizabeth passed them at a high speed.

Govender said the police gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle. "On checking the vehicle, it was found to have a copied licence disc," she said.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle was being sought in Durbanville, Western Cape.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested and faces a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. He will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrates Court soon.
