Grahamstown's Bargain Books shop has had a terrific start to the new year by earning the franchise's Shop of the Year Award for 2012.

The Pepper Grove Mall branch was recognised as one of last year's top three sales performers, based on the percentage growth in sales from year to year.

Store manager Adriana Mosey said they were very happy to receive the award and attributed the success to team work.

Mosey said she and her team basically took over a severely neglected store last February and have since grown its sales by over 50%.

"In a nutshell the store's success is all about customer service, a passion for books and positive energy," she said.

Busy chatting with customers when Grocott's Mail visited the shop on Wednesday, Mosey was quick to pay tribute to those who had contributed to the store's success.

"Bargain Books Grahamstown would like to thank all our customers who helped us to achieve this award. We wish you all the best for 2013 and a hearty welcome to all our students."

Bargain Books is one of South Africa's leading discount booksellers with over 60 stores countrywide. It was established some 15 years ago in Cape Town.
