Police struggled into the night to recover the body of a man who drowned in Grey Dam on Friday 28 December.

Anele Dayile, 20, who was visiting family and friends in Grahamstown, drowned when he fell backwards into the dam on Friday afternoon, according to Grahamstown police.

Police divers and the K9 search and rescue unit were at the scene until late on Friday night, but recovered the body only on the next morning.

"The victim lived in Grahamstown until two years ago when he moved to  Uitenhage," said police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender. "At the time of the incident, he was visiting relatives."
