A boxing bout in Uitenhage had to be stopped in the fourth round last weekend after a local boxer was knocked out.

In a boxing tournament which held at Thanduxolo High School on Saturday, Vuyani Swartbooi, of Grahamstown boxing club, Masibambane, faced Uitenhage's Mzwabantu Dabaza.

After watching the first of two rounds, coach, Bulelani Ndwayana had expected Swartbooi to win – but in round four the referee had to stop the fight.

Ndwayana said Swartbooi's mistake was that he putted his fists down.

You cannot fight with your fists down in boxing, that is dangerous and a boxer can be knocked very easy in professional levels, he said.

After Swartbooi attacked on round four with upper cuts and jabs, he forget to put his fists up, he said. Ndwayana said that this was Swartbooi's second fight and he had lost both matches.

Swartbooi signed a contract with Masibambane as a professional in July.

The event was organised by Rainbow Boxing Promotions in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
