The contractor tasked with upgrading a sports facility in Foley's Ground, near Hlalani location, has been fired by the municipality after failing to perform the general conditions of their contract.

The R4.1 million project has come to an indefinite halt since the axing of Soyama Construction last month.

Acting Municipal Manager Thembinkosi Myalato recently confirmed that Makana municipality had terminated their contract with the construction company. Myalato said the contractor didn't stick to the general conditions of their agreement, adding that the quality of their work was poor and so the contract was terminated on 12 October.

Myalato said Soyama was responsible for constructing the building while King Construction was sub-contracted to work on the accompanying soccer field.

Asked when a new contractor would continue working on project, Myalato said the municipality would have to follow all the administration processes before work could resume. The project has currently come to a standstill but we want construction to resume within two weeks, he said late last week.

Once completed, the Foley's Ground facilities are expected to include a soccer field, tennis and basketball courts, changing rooms, a catering cottage, fencing and an ablution block.
